In short
- KeepNav works out your position on your phone. There is no account and no server that receives your location.
- Trip recordings are stored on your phone and leave it only if you send them yourself.
- Voice commands are recognised on your phone; audio is never stored or sent.
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking SDKs, no sale of data.
Who we are
KeepNav is developed by [developer / company name, address] (“we”). For anything about your data, write to hello@keepnav.com. We are the controller for the data you choose to send us (see below).
Data processed on your phone
To check GPS and navigate without it, the app processes on the device:
- Location: raw satellite measurements, the phone's GPS fix, and the network (cell / Wi-Fi) position provided by Android.
- Motion sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer — for heading, steps and turns.
- Vehicle and wheel speed from an OBD-II adapter or a Bluetooth speed sensor you connect.
- Voice: while you hold the assistant open (mic button) or have switched on the wake phrase, microphone audio is processed in memory to recognise the command. The audio is discarded right away.
- Places you save: home and work, recent searches, settings.
Trip recordings (beta). While protected navigation runs, the app records the inputs above — including the text of voice commands and how they were handled — in a file on your phone, so problems can be replayed and fixed. Recordings without movement are deleted automatically; you can delete any recording in the app, and uninstalling the app deletes all of them.
What you send us
Only when you use Menu → Send to developer and choose recordings, the app packs them into an archive and opens Android's share sheet; you choose how to send it. These recordings contain precise location history, including where your trips start and end (for example, your home), sensor data and the text of voice commands.
- Purpose: to analyse and improve GPS-integrity checks, dead reckoning, routing and the assistant.
- Legal basis: your consent, given by sending; you can withdraw it at any time.
- Who sees them: the KeepNav developers only. We never publish recordings or anything that reveals where a person was. We do not publish maps of where GPS interference occurs.
- Retention: as long as needed for the analysis, at most 24 months, or earlier on request.
- Storage: on the developers' own computers, not in third-party analytics services.
Network requests the app makes
These requests carry no account or identifier, but like any internet request they reveal your IP address to the service.
| What | Service | What it learns |
|---|---|---|
| Satellite orbit files | BKG / IGS (igs.bkg.bund.de) | That a file was downloaded |
| Network time check | time.google.com (NTP) | A time request |
| Map tiles outside the built-in Kyiv map | Protomaps (build.protomaps.com) | Which map tiles are viewed — an approximate area |
| Online address search, only when the offline search finds nothing | OpenStreetMap Nominatim | The search text and the approximate area searched |
| Voice assistant models, only when you connect the assistant | Hugging Face, alphacephei.com | That the model files were downloaded |
Your position, sensor data and voice are not part of these requests. The Ukrainian voice prompts use the speech synthesiser installed on your phone; its own policy applies.
Permissions and why
- Precise location — to read satellites and navigate.
- Foreground service and notifications — to keep checking GPS during a trip and show the status.
- Bluetooth — to connect the OBD adapter or wheel sensor you choose. Not used to determine location.
- Microphone — only for voice commands, only after you start them.
- Display over other apps (optional) — the floating status button.
- Mock location app (optional, developer setting) — to pass KeepNav's position to another navigator if you enable it.
What we never do
- Sell, rent or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- Track you across apps or websites.
- Upload your location or voice automatically.
Your rights
Under the Law of Ukraine “On Personal Data Protection” and, where it applies, the EU GDPR, you can ask us to access, correct or delete the recordings you sent, restrict or object to their use, and withdraw consent. Write to hello@keepnav.com; we answer within 30 days. You may also complain to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights or your local data-protection authority.
Children. KeepNav is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly receive their data.
This website
This site has no analytics and sets no cookies for visitors. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. A message sent through the contact form (your name, email, topic and text) is stored on the server of this website so that we can answer it, and deleted when it is no longer needed for that.
Changes
We will update this policy when the app changes how it handles data — for example when it leaves beta or comes to iPhone — and show the new date above. Material changes will be announced in the app.
